Photographs of post-hurricane damage after The Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.

The Abraham Schwaczkin collection consists primarily of Jewish cantorial sheet music and lyrics.

Also included are a birth certificate and marriage certificates of Schwaczkin, a 1953 copy of the B'nai B'rith messenger newspaper, a catalog, several yearbooks from Jewish congregations, a photograph, and a series of letters between Schwaczkin and a Mrs. Morrison from 1940.

The papers document personal and professional activities of Adria Catalá Casey, "Cuban Shirley Temple,"  who was also a dancer in Grupo Folklórico.  Grupo Folklórico was established by Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cuba in 1951 with the mandate to represent Cuba in official international events, including festivals.  In April of 1954, the group represented Cuba in the National Folk Festival founded by the National Association of the Folkloric Festivals of the United States and the newspaper St. Louis Globe-Democrat.  There are clippings and photographs in the papers that document Adria Catalá Casey's participation in this festival. The materials include three scrapbooks containing clippings, photographs, invitations, programs, two issues of Bohemia, correspondence, etc. regarding Adria Catalá, clippings and photographs of Grupo Folklórico from 1954, photographs of artists of the radio station CMQ, edited by Radio Emisora CMQ on June 5, 1938.

The Alan Crockwell Collection contains a variety of materials from different sources that document the history of Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and greater Miami-Dade County. Much of the content is related to Ralph Middleton Munroe and his family. Topically, the papers also address criminal history in Miami-Dade County, historic buildings in Coconut Grove including the Barnacle and the Coconut Grove Library, the history of the University of Miami, and the early settling of Miami-Dade County. The dates of items range from 1873 into the 1970s.

A collection of 47 black and white prints (17 x 11 in.) of Alberto Sisso's photography. Notable prints include scenes around Venezuela, and prints from the following photo projects, "Metamorphosis," "Being There," and "Nuevos Espacios." "Metamorphosis"

"The pictures on this series depict a group of artists getting ready for a play about the legacy of Florence Foster Jenkins. Ms. Jenkins was many things, but overall, she represents the freedom to be who you are. Although, she was the recipient of some of the silliest music criticism of all time; she became an icon for standing your ground regardless of what others might think.

These images take this message a step further by challenging traditional gender roles and emphasizing the universal themes of Jenkins' story. By casting men in the role of Jenkins, the images showcase the power of individual expression and the freedom to be oneself, regardless of gender identity or societal expectations. Men dressing as women in Latin America in the 1970s was not visible or accepted. These scenes were linked to an underground movement that supported the LGBTQ+ communities, and that often met with stigma and discrimination.

In Metamorphosis, I thrived to expose the deep melancholy of the moment, as well as the enduring love for the magnificent theatrical gesture. I looked for images that capture the bond between the artist and the person's essence. The looser frame allowed me to create compositions that transcended the image from its ordinary status into something unique. With each take I was hoping to deliver a particular emotion, kind of a blend of something classic with an everlasting experience. A way in which we can all see ourselves echoed in, not as a cliché nostalgic approach, but more in a reflective manner.

"Nuevos Espacios"

"In the 1980s, the art scene in Caracas was booming, and the Contemporary Art Museum was at the forefront of the movement. Led by her director, Sofia Imber, the museum embarked on a much-needed expansion project, named Los Nuevos Espacios, which would go on to become an iconic institution in the city.

Imber was a trailblazer in the art world of Venezuela, and her dedication to promoting and supporting Venezuelan artists was evident throughout her career. Under her leadership, the Contemporary Art Museum became a hub for the country's avant-garde art scene, showcasing the works of both established and up-and-coming artists.

I had the privilege to document the night of the inauguration of Los Nuevos Espacios. It was a momentous occasion, and one that would go down in history. The walls of the museum were filled with the work of some of the most prominent artists of the time, including Alejandro Otero, Jesús Soto, and Carlos Cruz-Diez; and its corridors where packed with the best of the Venezuelan society. Representatives from the artistic milieu, politicians, entrepreneurs, and mainly art supporters and art lovers were present to bear witness of the making of the country’s modern history (the captions on each image list the names of some of the personalities in attendance).

Imber, beaming with pride, took the podium to give a speech, expressing her gratitude to everyone who had made the project a reality. For her, the expansion of the museum was more than just a physical transformation. It was a symbol of the evolution of Venezuelan society and the country's commitment to promoting and celebrating its cultural heritage. The museum was a testament to Imber's lifelong dedication to the arts and her unwavering belief in the power of creativity to transform communities. Imber's legacy continues to inspire and influence the arts in Venezuela, it lives on through the museum and the countless artists whose careers she helped launch. Sofía Imber was a visionary and true champion of the arts.

This series stand tall as a testament of the cultural memory of Venezuela, reminding future generations of the impact that Nuevos Espacios and Imber had on the art world."

"Being There"

"Jerzy Kosiński was a Polish-American writer who was known for his novels, including "Being There" and "The Painted Bird." In the 1980s, he was invited to Venezuela by the Diego Cisneros organization to participate in a cultural exchange program. As part of this program, Kosiński visited the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Caracas, which is one of the most important museums of contemporary art in Latin America, a must see stop and a city pride for all Venezuelans.

Kosiński's visit to Venezuela was part of a larger effort by the Diego Cisneros organization to promote cultural exchange between Venezuela and the United States. His visit to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo was a significant cultural event, and it helped to strengthen the ties between the two countries in the realm of the arts. This series documents that visit."

Allison B. Curry, Jr. served as Director of Public Service for Coral Gables from 1934 to 1939. Between 1939 to 1942 he was promoted to city manager. In 1942 he left to hold this same post for the city of Miami. From 1946 to the end of his career he was Director of the Dade County Port Authority as well as of the Miami International Airport.

The Allison B. Curry collection contains diplomas, photographs, a brochure on the metric system, two metric rulers (one in a leather sleeve with his name in ink), metric converters, a lighter with his initials engraved and a case, and a cartoon of Curry signed by city employees.

This collection consists of the papers of Althea “Gerry” Lister from 1935 to 1997. It contains: biographical information pertaining to Lister’s 45 year career at Pan American World Airways; “Along Air Avenues,” an unpublished manuscript that provides a detailed account of Pan Am’s maintenance and safety operations; a list of survey and inaugural flights created by Lister; a list of McCoy print purchasers and prices created by Lister; and a chronology of Pan Am’s aircraft fleet created by Lister. The papers include certificates, correspondence, photographs, and press clippings.

This collection contains photo albums, interviews, the McCourt family tree, clippings, notes, correspondence, manuscripts, photo albums, resumes/CVs, legal documents, and other archival documents about Sue McCourt Cobb’s career as an American Ambassador to Jamaica (2001-2005) and the former Secretary of State of Florida (2005-2007) and her climb on Mt. Everest.

A typescript by Rudi Franke in which he narrates the journey to France of a German infantry during World War II. The document also includes photographs, maps and hand drawn sketches.

Andrew Giel visited Cuba as a tourist 10 times between September 1955 and December 1959, traveling as far as Trinidad in Santi Spíritus. Fifty years later, Mr. Giel printed 8 x 10 enlargements from the original transparencies. Those prints are found in this collection. They include views from across the island, including Havana, Trinidad, and Santiago de Cuba. The collection also includes color prints of the black and white photography and photographic reproductions of Cuban postcards from the 1950s.

The 1955 slides were made with an Argus C4 camera and the later slides with a Leica IIIF.

This collection contains scrapbooks, loose prints, and photo albums of Canada, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Miami, Miami Beach, and other countries in South America and the Caribbean.

This collection includes regional and historic maps, original drawings, plans, elevations, photographs, and blueprints of residential and commercial architecture, community project plans, city/town plans, historic restoration plans and aerial photographs.  The bulk of the materials are focused on, but, not limited to the areas of Miami-Dade, Coral Gables, and Miami Beach.

In October, 1963, Charles Cinnamon, public relations director of the Coconut Grove Playhouse, organized a “Left Bank” art show to publicize the opening of Irma La Douce at the Playhouse. The art show was a success and shortly thereafter the Coconut Grove Association was formed to put on an annual art festival.

In the early days, the whole community got involved, and Festival activities included an antique car parade, coconut smashing contest, concerts, and a children’s art exhibit. The Chamber of Commerce and Grove House artists helped in putting on the festival.

This juried arts festival has repeatedly been selected as the top outdoor fine arts festival in the United States, displaying the work of artists from around the world and attracting families and connoisseurs alike.

The collection contains a variety of material including correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications, press releases, administrative files, photographs, ephemera and posters from the Coconut Grove Art Festival 1963 to 2012.

The papers include letters from various prominent Cuban figures; among them Tomás Estrada Palma, Salvador Cisneros, Lola R. de Tió, Armando Menocal, Mario Menocal and others.  The materials also consist of newspaper clippings about sugar industry and some photographs.

Research material from noted author and historian, Arva Moore Parks McCabe (1939-2020). Born in Miami, Florida, Arva had written countless books on Florida's eclectic history, including The Forgotten Frontier: Florida through the Lens of Ralph Middleton Munroe, Miami, the Magic City, and George Merrick, Son of the South Wind: Visionary Creator of Coral Gables. She also served as chief curator, interim director, and chair of the Coral Gables Museum.

This collection focuses heavily on George E. Merrick, Coral Gables, and other research topics used in her writings. It also features a large assortment of archival material: booklets, books, magazines, posters, photographs, negatives, pamphlets, postcards, maps, ephemera, newspapers, and guides about Miami and other notable cities and famous people related to South Florida.

The Arva Moore Parks photograph collection consists of images of Cuban exile owned restaurants, stores and other businesses in Miami in the 1960s and 1970s.

The records document activities of Asociación Cubana de Mujeres Universitarias.  The materials include minutes, financial reports, by-laws, correspondence, election advertisements, newspaper clippings, invitations and photographs.

The papers document the activities of the employees of El Encanto, an upscale department store in Havana before Castro's regime.  The materials include photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, correspondence, diplomas, advertising, tear sheets, store bags and envelopes and memorabilia, such as, albums of "El Encanto" and a DVD of photographs of "El Encanto".

The collection documents activities of Atalá Carranza Duarte in capacity of a teacher.  The materials consist of predominantly photographs of Atalá Carranza Duarte during her school years in Cuba, her professional career as a teacher in Distrito Escolar de Guanabacoa in the Provincia de la Habana, as well as, of her friends and family.

The Band of the Hour collection contains photograph albums, photographs, programs, certificates, sheet music, cards, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, plaque, posters, and other ephemera pertaining to University of Miami Frost School of Music's Band of the Hour.

This collection contains records from the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Department of Ophthalmology, administrative documents, development documents, materials from the Eye bank, Allied papers, Edward W. D. Norton's papers, general files, architectural designs and planning documents, papers from other notable faculty and administrators, newsletters, promotional materials, photographs, awards, plaques, ephemera, and audio-visual materials.

The Beaux Arts collection consists of scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, brochures, photographs, and magazines related to the Beaux Arts Organization and the annual Beaux Arts Festival that takes place in South Florida, which is usually co-hosted by University of Miami.

This photograph collection includes portraits and group photographs by Bernard Iglesias of Cuban exile personalities primarily from Miami.

Born Linnea Eleanor Yeager in March 13, 1929, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, "Bunny" gained international fame as both a model and a photographer. She moved to Miami at a young age and first attracted local interest as a model, winning several pageants and gracing the pages of popular magazines. While she was modeling, she developed a knack for designing and sewing together her own bikinis, and her style became rather prolific in the fashion circuit for many years after.

Since creating portfolios was rather expensive while Bunny was trying to break out into the modeling industry, she was motivated to learn photography and took several night classes to hone her abilities and create her own portfolios. She eventually developed her signature method of photography that allowed her to take pictures of models using natural light through the "fill flash" method. Her style helped to reinvent the genre of nude and pin-up photography, taking it from its roots of overt raunchiness and elevating it into an art form that centered around playful sensuality and provocativeness. Her photos have been featured in Playboy, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Esquire and many other big-name magazines, and she was also credited in helping to make Bettie Page into a household name as well as other famous pin-up models such as Lisa Winters. Her career also includes several self-penned books, including such titles as How I Photograph Myself, How to take Figure Photos, Photographing the Female Figure, and How I Photograph Nudes.

Bunny Yeager eventually passed away in May 25, 2014 in North Miami, but her legacy as one of the leading pioneers of pin-up photography remains. Her collection captures her eclectic history with an array of scrapbooks, correspondence, ephemera, photographs and clippings, all which illustrate her passion for her work.

The collection contains correspondence, photos, performance fliers, a plaque, and posters of dancer Caridad "Pitucha" Vega.

The collection contains digital photography created by Carl Moore on various trips to Cuba, including contemporary Cuban street scenes and portraits of dancers. Many of the photographs feature dancers from Compañía Codanza in Holguín. Other topics photographed include agriculture, nature and country life; baseball and sports; street vendors and the sugar industry; and transportation. Moore traveled throughout the island and photographed in the following cities and towns:

The papers document professional activities of Carlos Felipe in a capacity of a playwright and of Rosa Felipe in a capacity of an actress.  The materials consist of manuscripts of Carlos Felipe's plays, in which he deals with human passions, giving his characters essential Cuban elements.  Some of the plays were published in Spain, while others were published in Cuba.  The manuscripts of the following plays are included in the papers: "Esta noche en el bosque," for which he received Premio Nacional de Teatro in 1939, "Tambores," and "De pelicula."  A copy of "El Chino," published by Repertorio Teatral Cubano and a published miniature of "Capricho en rojo" are also included in this collection.  The collection also contains academic essays by other authors about Carlos Felipe's plays, especially about "Réquiem por Yarini" in which Carlos Felipe utilizes structure of Greek tragedy.  Materials include clippings with interviews with Carlos Felipe, theatre programs, especially the programs of the several productions of "Réquiem por Yarini" and theatrical reviews.

The materials also document acting career of Rosa Felipe who worked in Cuba, Madrid, Latin America and Miami.  Rosa Felipe worked with other Cuban actors in exile in Miami for the theatre group Repertorio Español.  The bulk of the material documenting Rosa Felipe's career consists of photographs from Cuban TV, theatre and award receiving events.  Moreover, the collection contains Certificates of Recognition, membership cards, slides and theatre programs of productions featuring Rosa Felipe.

The papers include correspondence with important Cuban, Spanish and Latin American writers, photographs, manuscripts, programs, pamphlets with printed poems and programs.  The writers discuss exile experience, existential topics and the solitude of a poet.

The papers consist of albums with photographs, clippings and memorabilia related to the 25th anniversary celebration of Spanish newspaper "La Tribuna de North Jersey". Carlos G. Bidot and his wife Lydia were the founders of this publication.

The Carlos Surinach collection contains a bound, autographed photocopy of the score to Symphonic Melismas by composer Carlos Surinach. Symphonic Melismas had its world premiere at the Festival Miami of 1993, sponsored by the University of Miami School of Music. Also included is a photograph of Surinach, two copies of the 1993 program, and a photocopy of a biography of Surinach.

The Carlota Caulfield papers consist of personal and professional correspondence, literary materials including typescripts, manuscripts, poetry, video cassettes, DVDs, cassette tapes, and floppy discs, and various ephemera like clippings, pamphlets, flyers, postcards, photographs, and publications that document Caulfield's career as a poet, scholar, and cultural figure.

The Carmen Puig papers document Carmen Puig's family ties to Jennings Cox, Puig's step-grandfather and the American credited with inventing the daiquiri cocktail. Cox was an engineer with Bethlehem Iron Works in charge of mines in Daiquirí, a town in Cuba's southeast region. Cox reportedly invented the famous daiquiri cocktail in 1898 by mixing together white Bacardi rum, mineral water, sugar, lemon juice, and crushed ice.

The Carmen Puig Papers include an original recipe for the daiquiri, while the bulk of the materials consist of family photographs. The papers also include some correspondence, clippings, and memorabilia; and materials related to Puig's career with the Bacardi company from 1965 to 1986.

A collection of books, photographs, scrapbooks, audio-visual and printed materials about the American novelist Carson McCullers. The research files were compiled by McCullers biographer and literary critic Virginia Spencer Carr.

The collection documents the professional activities of the Cuban singer Celia Cruz from the 1950s until 2003. The bulk of materials in this collection include photographs documenting Celia Cruz's career in Cuba, the U.S. and internationally. The collection also contains an important number of photographs and newspaper clippings about Celia Cruz’s funeral in July 2003. The materials include both old and recent newspaper clippings, as well as posters, magazines, invitations, correspondence, signed postcards, awards, and uncorrected page proofs for the book. The collection also contains important music scores: the instrumental parts for the arrangements of some of Cruz's major hits, written by some of the most important arrangers in Latin music, and one published music score. Additionally, the collection includes an array of items like a shoe, cassette tapes, a fan, CDs and a DVD.

This collection contains the records of the Charles Ives Centennial Festival that took place in Miami in 1974, celebrating the composer's 100th birthday. The collection includes correspondence that documents the planning process, programs for events celebrating Ives in Miami and elsewhere, articles and reviews, photographs, and official documentation.

The Charles T. Simpson collection contains photographs, account statements, letters, minutes, contracts, typescripts, articles, certificates, membership cards, manuscripts, notes, photocopies, and a plant specimen, which document the lengthy botanical and zoological career of the early 20th century naturalist.

The Civil Theatre of Greater Miami Records contains materials regarding the now defunct Miami Civic Theatre and the performances that were held there.

The Clark Mixon Emery papers consists of materials regarding the 20th century modernist expatriate American poet Ezra Pound (1885-1972).

A total of 53 letters and postcards by Ezra Pound addressed mostly to Emery written from September 4th, 1951 to August 1st, 1959 are held in this collection, predominantly written during Pound's stay in the St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was treated for mental illness until 1958. Some letters by his wife Dorothy are included as well. Most of the letters are typed, and about half are signed. Many of the letters concern Emery's work on his 1958 monograph Ideas Into Action; A Study of Pound's Cantos. In others Pound writes about his complacency in the hospital and his eagerness to depart, and discusses the work of Emery's student Ronald Perry. In addition to the letters the envelopes are preserved as well. Photocopies of the letters and envelopes are included in the collection.

Other correspondence held in the collection concerns Ezra Pound and his Cantos. These include letters from Pound's daughter, Mary de Rachewitz, to Emery; letters from Sheri Martinelli and Ronald Perry, also 20th century American poets, to Emery; a letter from Walton Brooks McDaniel, former teacher and friend of Pound, to Archie McNeal, former university librarian of the University of Miami Libraries, regarding Emery's work on Pound; and photocopies of other letters by Pound not addressed to Emery. Some of Ronald Perry's poetry, and two photographs of Sherri Martinelli's paintings of Ezra Pound, are included as well.

The other materials in the collection are as follows: essays by and about Pound from the 1950s; transcripts of broadcasts by Pound from December 7, 1941 to June 28, 1942; The Analyst, "A Guide to Ezra's Cantos"; a January 1948 issue of "Four Pages," regarding Pound's poetry; an "Ezra Pound for President" pamphlet; The Pound newsletter #1-10 from January 1954 to April 1956; Strike periodical #1-3, #5-6, #8-10 from June 1955 to June 1956; Amagogic & Paideuminic Review #5-6 and an October 1959 issue; a 1952 typescript titled "Die Pisaner Gesänge" by Rainer M. Gerhardt; and other periodicals, newspapers, and clippings.
