Biographical history

Robert Bradford Browne was a Coconut Grove architect noted for his distinctive designs of tropical homes and buildings.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1922. He graduated from The University of Florida School of Architecture, and moved to Miami in 1952.
Browne served as chief architect and coordinator of the Inter-American Cultural Trade Center (Interama) project in the 1960s. He died in Miami in 1987.
Browne is listed in the AIA Historical Directory of American Architects (ahd1005515)

Scope and content

This collection contains photographs, 35 mm slides, and ephemera related to Browne's architectural legacy to include:
Avocado Elementary School, Homestead FL; Rio Mar Village Residential Resort, Rio Grande, Luquillo, Puerto Rico; Ocean Pines Yacht Club, Ocean Pines, MD, and other projects in South Florida and the Caribbean.

Custodial history

This collection was considered part of the Visual Resources Collections at the School of Architecture.  The VR collections were systematically weeded between 2008-2009, the process by which original photography was identified and kept, and the removal of copy-stand images from books and some commercial slides,  The Robert Bradford Browne slide collection was kept on-site at the Architecture Library for further processing.
