• Written treatises presenting the author’s scholarly investigation or original research on a specialized subject. Examples are treatises submitted for an advanced academic degree or historical European treatises written by the praeses or primary professor and defended by the respondent or degree candidate.

• Documents giving authoritative recognition of a fact, qualification, or promise.

• Books in which financial accounts are kept.

• Visual works created or modified using a computer or other digital medium. These products are exhibited in a variety of ways: statically or as interactive concepts that may reveal or obscure their computer origins. For works that use computer machinery intrinsically as a part of the work, use "computer art."

• Documentation summarizing the activities of an organization over the course of a year.

• Photographs in which the tones or colors are reversed from their appearance in nature, usually on a transparent support of celluloid, acetate, or on paper, intended for the purpose of producing positive prints. For finished prints in which tones or colors are reversed, see "negative prints." When a glass plate is painted or drawn on and a photographic print made from it, use "clichés-verre."

• Negatives that have a gelatin layer as a binder on a glass support.

• Three-dimensional works of art in which images and forms are produced in relief, in intaglio, or in the round. The term refers particularly to art works created by carving or engraving a hard material, by molding or casting a malleable material (which usually then hardens), or by assembling parts to create a three-dimensional object. It is typically used to refer to large or medium-sized objects made of stone, wood, bronze, or another metal. Small objects are typically referred to as "carvings" or another appropriate term. "Sculpture" refers to works that represent tangible beings, objects, or groups of objects, or are abstract works that have defined edges and boundaries and can be measured. As three-dimensional works become more diffused in space or time, or less tangible, use appropriate specific terms, such as "mail art" or "environmental art."

• Relatively brief invented prose narratives.

• Printed matter or objects devised to advertise or promote products, causes, or other concerns, especially those items given away to prospective consumers, clients, or contributors. Not used with reference to items produced before the late 19th century.

• Printed or written lists of the acts, scenes, selections, or other features composing a theater performance, including the names of the performers.

• Private documents belonging to an individual. For records kept by public officials or other persons for their private or personal use but relating to their official duties, use "office files."

• Cassettes of audiotape. According to international standards, the tape is usually 0.15 inches (3.8 millimetres) wide and can carry 4 to 8 tracks.

• Very small audiocassettes roughly a quarter of the size of a standard audiocassette. For audiocassettes of comparable size, but that lack a capstan drive system, use 'minicassettes.'

• Literary compositions prepared for publication as an independent portion of a magazine, newspaper, encyclopedia, or other work.

• Public notices or paid announcements, especially those in print. For announcements paid for by an advertiser and broadcast on radio or television, use "commercials."
