Biographical history
Originally born in Chicago, IL, Karen Rifas moved to Miami when she was young and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from University of Miami. She also taught art at the New World School of the Arts, University of Miami, and Miami-Dade College. Her accolades include receiving the Michael Richards Award and having her works exhibited in high-profile events and locales, such as the Bass Museum of Art, Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico, the Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Oolite Arts, the NSU Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Miami-Dade Art in Public Places Trust, and the Perez Art Museum Miami.

This collection contains exhibit promotional materials, correspondence, periodicals, news clippings, sketchbooks, art work, photographs, audio-visual materials (VHS, CD-Rs, floppy disks, Hi8 videocassette tapes), administrative files, and other related archival materials from the local Miami artist, Karen Rifas.
