Joe Cardona Video Collection

The Joe Cardona Video Collection contains nearly 100 video tapes of research material for documentaries and films directed and produced by Joe Cardona, independent filmmaker.

The collection contains 51 VHS tapes of unedited interviews for the documentary Café con leche; thirty-three videotapes of interviews for the films Adiós Patriaand Los plantados; and videotaped interviews for the documentary José Martí: Legacy of Freedom.

Joaquín Roy is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration at the University of Miami and Co-Director of the European Union Center of Excellence, Miami. The collection consists of personal materials and documents from organizations or programs in which Dr. Roy was personally involved.

Series I contains typescripts, books, and publications from the Letras de Oro program organized by the North-South Center at the University of Miami. This program awarded prizes and published novels, poetry, theater plays, essays, and literary criticism in the Spanish language.

Series II contains newspapers, periodicals, brochures, pamphlets, publications, reports, letters, clippings from the Florida Catalan Society.

Series III contains personal materials from Dr. Joaquín Roy, including typescripts and manuscripts, lecture notes, periodicals, letters, clippings, bibliographies, and other materials. Included among the typescripts are ones for Julio Cortázar Ante Su Sociedad, ALA : Periodismo y Literatura, and Lecturas De Prensa.

Joaquín E. Meyer Papers

The papers document professional activities of Joaquín Meyer, a prominent figure in Cuban sugar industry, the Alternate Executive Director of International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Uruguay, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua; a Representative of the Cuban Sugar Stabilization Institute in Washington and Financial Councilor of the Cuban Embassy. Bulk of the materials consists of correspondence. The materials also include photographs, documents, reports, pamphlets, memorabilia, diplomas and albums with photographs and clippings. The materials consist of reports on sugar cane industry, reports on World's sugar production, documents from Cuban Embassy in Washington DC, documents on US-Cuba relations and economic trade, memoranda about amendments to sugar legislature in US, clippings from 1959 about Fidel Castro, transcripts, international sugar reports, typescript of the International Sugar agreement.

Joaquín de Yturralde y López Silvero was the Consul of Spain in Havana in the 1920s during the presidencies of Dr. Alfredo Zayas and General Gerardo Machado y Morales. His papers contain correspondence from 1925 to 1926 and other materials such as invitations, programs, and financial records.

The Joan Sturhahn Papers contains a typescript with corrections of her 1976 work Carvalho, Artist-Photographer-Adventurer-Patriot: Portrait of a Forgotten American. This typescript, however, is titled "Solomon Nunes Carvalho, Recorder of History with Brush and Lens, 19th Century American Scene."

Also included is a note from Sturhahn to Dr. Charlton Tebeau that accompanied the typescript sent to him.

Jewish Ephemera collection

The collection consists of two groupings of materials. The first is a donation of photographs, ephemeral documents, correspondence, and clippings related to Jewish organizations and synagogues in Cuba given by Ramón Cernuda in 2013. The second grouping contains documents, broadsides, and correspondence related to the Jewish diaspora in Cuba during the 20th century, including advertisements for Zionist gatherings and immigration and religious documentation, acquired from Libros Latinos in 2019.

Jeanne Perkins Harman papers

Jeanne Perkins Harmans was a journalist and writer residing in the Virgin Islands of the United States. The collection consists of materials from and regarding the Virgin Islands on a wide range of issues in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including political conditions and controversies, tourism, description of the islands, and race and sexuality concerns on the islands. Many of the items consist of correspondence with and type-written notes by Harmans, or clippings from newspaper articles by Harmans and others; but there are also reports, periodicals, brochures, bibliographies, and maps. Some of the correspondence concerns Harmans's publishing activities, including that of a 1691 book titled "The Virgins: Magic Islands." A signed copy of this book was contained in the collection, but later separated out and housed with the Special Collections monographs.

The Jay Mallin Papers contain materials relating to journalist Jay Mallin's work on covering Cuban politics and news. Materials include papers related to Radio Martí and T.V. Martí; and files, clippings, and reports related to his reporting on Cuba.

The collection is divided into three series. Series 1, Topical Files, contains clippings related to Cuba from the late 1950s-1960s and files, materials and reports related to Mallin's work as a journalist in Cuba. Series 2, Radio Martí, contains documents, clippings and correspondence related to Radio Martí in Washington, D.C. from 1985-1990. Series 3, T.V. Martí, contains memos, news releases, bulletins, correspondence, telegrams and transcripts related to T.V. Martí in Miami, Florida from 1986-1990.

Jay Fish was president of the Miami Geological Society, Inc. The Jay Fish Papers consist of documents pertaining to a 1983 symposium held by the Miami Geological Society, titled "Geology of South Florida." Many of the documents are letters, typescripts, maps, photographs, and essays sent to Fish by scientists wishing to present at the symposium. However, several periodicals on geology are included as well.
