Mariana Avilés Collection

The papers consist of manuscripts of musical scores, photographs of Avilés family, scrapbooks, drawings and memorabilia of Avilés family. The drawings, in particular, exhibit artistic aptitudes of John and Mariana Avilés.  Of note, is the collection of daguerreotypes and photographs from 19th and early 20th century of Avilés family.

Orichas Collection

The Orichas Collection consists of the series of drawings by Cuban-born artist Alberto del Pozo (1946-1992) of the deities of Afro-Cuban Santería.  The Collection includes 17 original illustrations in pen, crayon, and ink on paper; signed and unsigned lithographs of these drawings; and catalogs and notecards of the Orichas series.  Lithographs, catalogs, and notecards are available for purchase.

Lydia Cabrera papers

The Lydia Cabrera papers document the life and career of writer and ethnographer Lydia Cabrera, one of the 20th century’s leading writers on Cuban folklore and an internationally known chronicler of Afro-Cuban culture and religion. The materials include correspondence, manuscripts of her works, field notes, interviews, photographs, illustrations, and memorabilia. This collection also contains documentation about the restoration of several colonial buildings in Cuba.

A highlight of the collection are the libretas, or notebooks, collected by Cabrera from Santeria priests and priestesses that document rituals and religious practices of the Afro-Cuban faith. These are found in Series 3 along with her manuscripts and field notes.

Part of this collection has been digitized and is available in the University of Miami Digital Collections online repository.

This collection brings together a variety of historical documents that are topically related to Latin America, including manuscripts, correspondence, and illustrations. The documents range from 1420 to 1994 in date, and originate from Mexico, New Granada, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and other parts of Latin America.

Theodore Spicer-Simson collection

The Theodore Spicer-Simson Collection contains the Spicer-Simson medallions as well as photographs, correspondence, typescripts and other related material.

The bulk of the collection consists of the Spicer-Simson medallions. These are portrait medallions cast in bronze of major world and literary figures from Spicer-Simson's lifetime. All of these were sculpted from life. Notable among these are David Fairchild, Padraic Colum, Henry Ford, Sir Ernest Rutherford, Sherwood Anderson, Theodore Dreiser, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and other important figures in addition to person friends and family members of Spicer-Simson.

The collection contains many other examples of Spicer-Simson medals in the form of medals, awards, and sculptings that Spicer-Simson created. Included in these are medals sculpted for the National Academy of Sciences, Princeton University, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the U.S. Congress. The collection also contains clay and plaster molds of medallions, including some small pieces of sculpture. In addition to all his sculpture and medallions, the collection contains examples of Spicer-Simson's other artwork in the form of sketches, drawings, and bookplates.

Spicer-Simson's autobiography, A Collector of Characters is held in the collection, along with the typescripts of the book. The collection's correspondence includes correspondence from Hervey Allen, Padraic Colum, H.L. Mencken, Eleanor Roosevelt, Sir Ernest Rutherford, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The photographs include mostly photographs of medallions and sculpture, including some not in the collection, but also contain many photos of Spicer-Simson's subjects, some of these mounted and autographed.

Teresa Verdaguer Papers

The papers consist of correspondence including two letters of Tomás Estrada Palma, the first president of the Republic of Cuba and one letter of Generalísimo Máximo Gómez. The materials also include a photograph of the Shrine of Our Lady of Charity in El Cobre, Oriente and a photograph of "El Salto del Hanabanilla", which are placed with Cuban Photograph Collection, as well as, clippings, an album with drawings and poetry, Don Miguel Alberti's family tree, genealogy documents and the drawings of coats of arms.

Youth Crime Watch of Dade County collection

The Youth Crime Watch of Dade County (YCW) serves Miami-Dade county schools in responding to requests for services from school faculty representatives on youth crime prevention presentations and YCW program implementation trainings.

The Youth Crime Watch of Dade County Collection consists primarily of arts and crafts items, all titled "A Safe and Perfect World", which were created by Dade County students. The collection also contains several  poems, a laminated scrapbook titled "Give the World a Hand!", and various clippings from local newspapers.

This collection features an array of scrapbooks, many of which are homemade, from the 19th and 20th centuries. Subjects covered in these scrapbooks include fashion, advertising, history, Robert Louis Stevenson, Pat Cannon's congressional run, garden clubs, cruises, and more. These scrapbooks are comprised of portraits, photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, programs, brochures, maps, drawings, telegrams, and more. Some of the creators are unknowns or names without renown, but these scrapbooks highlight their personal tastes and interests, offering some unique insight into their lives.

Lucila Madruga Collection

The collection consists of 14 pencil drawings with text in ink by Lucila Madruga de Díaz Piferrer, a Cuban artist of international fame, made in 1938 and two note cards painted by Madruga in the 1960s and 1970s.

Luis Felipe Mencía Papers

The Luis Felipe Mencía papers contain correspondence, clippings about medicine and hospitals, as well as the Cuban Medical Conventions in Exile etc., one illustration of the Hospital Mercedes in Cuba, a roster and invitations to various events of the Cuban Society of Surgery, and pamphlets about surgery in Cuba.  It also contains historical issues of periodical publications related to medicine in Cuba and Cuban physicians.  The most important materials of this collection are a lecture offered by Mencía at the special session of the Ninth International Cuban Medical Association Congress, Miami, 1987, and the manuscript of Dr. Mencía's book: Recuerdos de la Cirugía en Cuba,  published in Miami in 1990.  In this collection we also find a photocopy of one speech by Dr. D. González Marmol.
