Biographical history
Florinda Alzaga was a Cuban essayist and professor. Born in Camagüey in 1930, Dr. Alzaga authored various books and articles and lectured on issues of Cuba, philosophy, and religion, as well as presiding over the Círculo de Cultura Panamericano.
Alzaga graduated from the University of Havana in 1952. She worked as a professor in Cuba until her exile in 1960. Teaching throughout South Florida, the bulk of Dr. Alzaga’s professional activity in the United States took place at Barry University.
The author’s notable publications include Ensayo de diccionario del pensamiento vivo de la Avellanedaand Raíces del alma cubana.

Scope and content
The Florinda Álzaga Collection contains manuscripts, articles and audiovisual materials relating to the academic work of Cuban essayist Florinda Álzaga.
The collection contains article manuscripts, clippings and 39 cassettes featuring lectures given by professor Florinda Álzaga at Barry University. The lectures deal with Spanish literature; women in literature and Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda.
