The Office of University Relations includes the divisions of Media Relations, Medical School Public Relations, Video Services and the Publications Department. Earlier titles for this office include the News Bureau and the Public Affairs Office. The periodic changes in office titles and functions are a reflection of shifts in the emphasis of university activities and the constant evolution of technology. Office files include information that dates from the University of Miami's inception, in 1926, through the mid-1980s.

This University of Miami News Bureau records include memoranda, press releases, clippings, correspondence, notes, and other materials on a wide range of activities, programs, and individuals associated with the University of Miami.

The files are arranged in four (4) series:
SERIES I: EARLY FILES, contains press releases, clippings, correspondence and other materials relating to University activities from 1926 through the 1930s. Topical files include information on a variety of university programs, including sports, the School of Music, and the Winter Institute. Financial resources for the fledgling university were scarce in these early years, and files reflect the importance of seeking and obtaining positive public relations announcements whenever possible.
SERIES II: TOPICAL FILES, contains clippings, correspondence, memoranda, press releases and other materials for the 1940s through the 1970s. The bulk of materials document activities from the 1950s through the 1970s, however. The alphabetical arrangement of files and the quantity of materials reflect the growing size and complexity of the University of Miami.
Files for an expanding range of student, faculty, and administrative activities include information on academic departments, schools, and programs. In addition, files for a broad spectrum of social and cultural activities on campus are present. A sample of subjects documented in these files includes athletics, the school band, homecoming events, intra-mural activities, beauty queens, lectures, conferences, student protests, and many more daily events and programs.
SERIES III: CHRONOLOGICAL FILES, contains thirty-seven boxes of press releases and attachments from September, 1958 - December, 1984. Within this chronology, materials from the period January, 1981 - June, 1982 are missing. These files provide a daily overview of University activities, accomplishments, and events reported to local, regional, and national news services.
SERIES IV: GENERAL FILES, contains a fifty-eight (58) boxes of files arranged in alphabetical order. These files include clippings, press releases and related information on subjects from the 1960s - 1980s. Once again, these files reflect a wide range of university activities and events, with significant sections for President Henry King Stanford and Trustees of the University of Miami.
