Scope and content

Pages & Spreads is a series of events designed to promote printed matter in Miami. The second edition of the event took place on October 19, 2013 at Lester's, a former coffee shop/bar/literary hang-out space in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood. The event was described as such: "In traditional publishing, an artist creates a work then passes it on to the publisher. The publisher edits it then gives it to a designer who, in turn, structures it visually, and finally sends it off to the printer, who makes it an object. For the second edition of Pages & Spreads, in collaboration with Jai-Alai magazine and Coloform, we will go through this entire process on site. In just 4 hours we will create, edit, design and print a unique zine to be distributed freely...But there's a catch: this zine will be written by you. Ever play the 'Telephone' game, where you send a message around a circle of people and see how it turns out? For this pop-up reading room we'll be playing the literary version. Everyone will have the chance to translate, recast or respond to an original poem from Jai-Alai magazine, until enough 'translations' are made for the zine." -- Description from Pages & Spreads.
