The Florida Promotional Materials (1886 to present) consists of a variety of advertising literature used by governmental and private organizations to depict the region as an ideal vacation destination. The collection includes various richly illustrated printed brochures, maps and flyers that provide information on public safety, tourism, art, horticulture, recreation, sport, education, as well as Florida’s famous hotels and rich wildlife, parks and national monuments. The collection also documents the growth of Florida’s cities to attract tourists and residents alike.

City Information: Material containing basic information of the city generally used to attract residents and tourists.

State Information: Material containing basic information of the state of Florida generally used to attract residents and tourists.

Sailing: Material containing sailing information, cruises and glass bottom sightseeing.

Fishing: Material containing information on fish and fishing. Can also be found under recreation.

Hotels: Material containing promotional information for hotels, inns, lodging, resorts and motels.

Parks: Material containing promotional information for wildlife parks, recreational parks and zoos.

Transportation: Material containing promotional information for transportation by land and sea.

Food: Material containing information on food, restaurants, beverages and recipes.

This collection is open for research.

Most of this collection is kept in an off -campus storage facility. Please contact Special Collections at asc.library@miami.edu with the boxes you are interested in prior to your visit, and allow up to 1 week for delivery of materials.
