History

Martin Spector founded Spec's Music in 1948. Spector's first store, located in Coral Gables, featured Big Band Melodies on records and later included electronics and household appliances. In the 1960's with the popularity of Rock ‘n Roll, Spector decided to focus primarily on the sale of music. In 1980, the leadership of the company was transferred to his daughter Ann Spector Lieff. Competition among music retailers in the late 1990s led to a merger with Camelot Music.
