Scope and content

Two of the newsletters within this box, Don Bell Reports and Closer Up, were published together and often mailed out to subscribers in the same envelope, however they have been separated because despite their close association, they were generally written as two separate newsletters with independent content. Closer Up was written by Josef Washington Hall (pen name Upton Close), a once prominent reporter who became shunned by mainstream media organizations after criticizing FDR's policies and becoming progressively more right-wing, eventually aligning himself with anti-semitic causes. Don Bell reports were written by the reporter Don Bell (born Clarence Alton Beliel),a respected WWII reporter.
