Rene Jordan (d. 2013) was a Cuban-born, New York City-based film critic. Jordan was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba and attended the Manuel Márquez Sterling School of Journalism in Havana, along with such notable classmates as Walfredo Piñera and Guillermo Cabrera Infante. As a professional writer in Cuba, Jordan published as a film critic for Excelsior and Bohemiain the 1950s. In 1962 Jordan left Cuba, settling in New York City where he began writing for publications such as Film Quarterly, The Village Voice, Films in Review, Cinema y film ideal. In 1976, Jordan began to write regularly in Spanish as a film critic for The Miami Herald, and later, El Nuevo Herald. Rene Jordan died in New York City on March 31, 2013 at age 85.
