History

The Charles Ives Centennial Festival was held in Miami in 1974-1975 to honor the centenary of Ives, a noteworthy American modernist Composer who lived from 1874-1954.

The festival was sponsored by the University of Miami. F. Warren O'Reilly served as the administrator, David Ewen was the Artistic Coordinator, and John Kirkpatrick and Nicolas Slonimsky were Artistic Consultants. Third Century, Miami's Bicentennial organization, was also involved. From 1974-1975, over 70% of Ives' music was performed by 30 participating organizations for an audience of over 90,000 people. In 1976, another 10% of the Ives catalog was performed during Miami's Festival of American Music.
