"15 1/2' and 10 1/2' in what appears to be cowhide and leatherwork over stiff boards, tied at spine with leather string. Holds 25 card leaves with 210 original photographs along with dozens of postcards, currency notes, scrap elements, etc...all mounted to rectos and versos (and to some tissue guards). An additional 15 photographs, various brochures, miscellaneous paper, and a large, folded map all laid in. A compelling scrapbook/photo album of compiled and photographed by American tourists in South America (Peru, Argentina, and Bolivia) during May of 1970. The album itself is attractively compiled and is highlighted by a large, seemingly unrecorded pictorial map of Machu Picchu and more than 200 original photographs, many uncommonly sympathetic street views and portraits of deeply impoverished indigenous peoples, providing a rich primary glimpse at the human street views and portraits of deeply impoverished indigenous peoples, providing a rich primary glimpse at the human rights conditions during a decade which saw widespread regional unrest and armed conflicts between indigenous guerilla groups and ruling governments over oppression and issues around the poverty on vivid display here. Photographs include street scenes, market scenes, monuments, important buildings, scenery, etc." --Description from Buckingham Books.
