General Daniel "Chappie" James, Jr. (1920-1978). General James was the first black four-star general in U.S. history. He began his military career as one of the "Tuskegee Airmen" the segregated black air force that fought during World War II. He married Dorothy Watkins James, sister of Aubrey Watkins Simms.
