Scope and content

This series consists of records pertaining to the Pan Am Building (now MetLife Building) located next to Grand Central Terminal in midtown Manhattan in New York City. Once the largest commercial office building in the world, the building was developed by Erwin S. Wolfson with the assistance of the architects Emery Roth & Sons, Walter Gropius, and Pietro Belluschi, and completed in 1963. This series includes records pertaining to the heliport facility on the building's roof, which offered helicopter service from Manhattan to the three major New York area airports. For more photographs of the Pan Am Building, see “Photographs, Properties and Facilities, Pan Am Building” and “Graphic Material and 3D Objects, Photo Albums”. For records pertaining to the Copter Club, which was located on the 57th and 58th floors, see “Public Relations and Marketing, Clubs”, and for photographs pertaining to the Copter Club, see “Photographs, Properties and Facilities, Clubs”.
