This third series contains a number of rare and unusual images of Florida. Stereogrpahs, cards mounted with two paper prints of an image, became popular in the 1860s. These images, when viewed through a stereoscope, appeared three-dimensional. This lightweight, easy-to-use device spurred photographers to create numerous sets of images for distant lands and exotic places. Many important photographers travelled to Florida to capture such images, in the days before the state became recognized as a tourist and vacation destination. Among the photographers and publishers represented in this collection are E. and H.T. Anthony, George Barker, Charles Bierstadt, Alfred Campbell, W.H. Cushing, A.G. Grant, Isaac Haas, F.N. Hunton, William Leach, James A. Macdonal, Mangold and Sons, J.F. Mears, J.S. Mitchell, William H. Rau, A.F. Styles, C. Seaver, Jr., Charles Torrey, Benjamin P. Upton, Wilson and Havens, and others.
