Scope and content
The first series contains a series of regional views of Florida, by the Art Photogravure Company of Racine, Wisconsin, 1904. A photogravure is created with the use of an intaglio copper plate, made from the original photograph , and printed like an engraving. This slow, hand-made process often produced a limited number of plates, as the plates are shallower and weaker than ordinary engravers' plates. The inks used in the printing process produce a "soft" appearance, that may be altered to achieve the artistic effect desired by the printer.
