Chapman, Stanley, 1925-2009

Stanley Chapman was one of the founders and president of the London Institute of Pataphysics. Architect and well-known designer, translator, writer and theatrical critic, he was one of the creators of the National Theatre of London, a member of OULIPO, a subcommittee of the College, who devoted himself to experimental literature and was influenced by the great surrealist Raymond Queneau. Chapman translated the famous book of Queneau "Hundred thousand billion poems" to English and also translated various books of Boris Vian, also a member of the College. Stanley Chapman was a permanent collaborator in the publication of the College de Pataphysique.

Charles Ives Centennial Festival (1974-1975 : Miami, Fla.)

The Charles Ives Centennial Festival was held in Miami in 1974-1975 to honor the centenary of Ives, a noteworthy American modernist Composer who lived from 1874-1954.

The festival was sponsored by the University of Miami. F. Warren O'Reilly served as the administrator, David Ewen was the Artistic Coordinator, and John Kirkpatrick and Nicolas Slonimsky were Artistic Consultants. Third Century, Miami's Bicentennial organization, was also involved. From 1974-1975, over 70% of Ives' music was performed by 30 participating organizations for an audience of over 90,000 people. In 1976, another 10% of the Ives catalog was performed during Miami's Festival of American Music.
