Scope note(s)

  • Refers to still images produced from radiation-sensitive materials (sensitive to light, electron beams, or nuclear radiation), generally by means of the chemical action of light on a sensitive film, paper, glass, or metal. Photographs may be positive or negative, opaque or transparent. The concept does not include reproductive prints of documents and technical drawings, for which descriptors found under "<reprographic copies>" are more appropriate. The concept may include photographs made by digital means.

The Plymouth Congregational Church records contains historical records created and maintained by the church from around the 1910s through 2010s. The collection contains (but is not limited to) church records on baptisms, weddings, and funerals; architectural drawings of the building and grounds (including the Little Schoolhouse); church bulletins; educational materials; organizational records, including minister files, records maintained by church organizations (eg. Music Committee, Women's Fellowship Circles), and information on governance; ephemera related to events; press clippings; scrapbooks, photographs; and sermons and memorial tapes.

Polita Grau de Agüero Papers

The Polita Grau de Agüero Papers document two aspects of Polita Grau’s life and family. The correspondence, writings, and memorabilia primarily document Polita’s time as a political prisoner in Cuba as well as her activities in exile on behalf of political prisoners. There are many clippings related to Polita’s experiences in prison, her life in exile, and Operation Pedro Pan. The photographs in this collection document Polita’s family from her parents to her own grandchildren, as well as the life of her uncle, Cuban president Ramón Grau San Martín.

Of special note in this collection is Series II where can be found biographies of Cuban women political prisoners. These biographies detail the experiences of these women in Cuban prisons. Series IV contains handicrafts created by Polita Grau and other political prisoners while serving their sentences.

The R. A. Cushman Papers contain the following items: (1) a U.S. flag, and letters from Arthur R. De Reyes, from the American Expeditionary Forces, to his mother written in 1917 and 1918; (2) three photographic prints from the U.S. Signal Corps; (3) 46 folders of reports, essays, transcripts, bibliographies, and pamphlets largely concerned with American foreign policy, touching on topics such as foreign trade, foreign concessions, foreign aid, U.S. exports, foreign banking, and immigration.

Ralph M. Munroe family papers

Ralph Middleton Munroe (1851-1933) settled in Florida in 1891, drawn by its lush tropical landscapes and beautiful seashores. An avid yachtsman and photographer, the Commodore traveled the South Florida coast capturing images of its pristine wilderness and the early inhabitants. Munroe’s photographs provide a unique visual record of South Florida history before its rapid urbanization. The Ralph M. Munroe Family Papers contain a rich assortment of photographs, albums, postcards, correspondence, clippings and manuscripts that document the frontier life in Coconut Grove.

The Ramiro Casañas Collection is composed of historical materials documenting the history of Cuba during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.  Included are correspondence and documentation from the Junta Revolucionaria Cubana (Series 1); military orders from Cuba and Puerto Rico; slavery documents; nominations written by Isabel II (Queen of Spain) and Alfonso XII (King of Spain); photographs of Cuba; letters and postcards; periodicals; music scores and memorabilia.

The Randy Liebermann Collection contains five photo albums and one scrapbook of Pan American World Airways materials. The materials primarily concern the Latin American Division, but also airplane models and company policy at large. The Scrapbook contains newsletters, pamphlets, clippings, certificates, letters, envelopes, stickers, postcards, stamps, and other materials.

The papers document the activities of two Cuban organizations in Boston: Agrupación Abdala and Bandera Cubana.  Regla González held leadership positions in these groups and was also active in the Boston Chapter of LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens).  The bulk of the collection consists of clippings and photographs with a small number of newsletters, event programs, and related material.

Richard B. Hoit photograph collection

Photographer Richard Hoit came to Miami in 1914 when he was 27. Already an experienced movie and aerial photographer, his collection of photographs includes landscapes from diverse regions including Massachusetts, Vermont and Florida in the United States. In addition, Hoit traveled extensively in South America in the early nineteen hundreds. The images resulting from these travels are of people and scenery from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru. Finally, the Richard Hoit Collection contains Hoit family photographs that span the period 1834 through 1973.
