"LeSesne, R. H., photographs by,. [Photo Album]: 'Daytona Beach, Florida: The World's Most Famous Beach.' Daytona Beach, Florida circa 1930s. Oblong quarto measuring 11.5" x 8". Screw-bound leather over stiff paper boards with 'Daytona Beach, Florida: The World's Most Famous Beach' stamped in black on the front board. Contains 82 linen-backed sepia-toned silver gelatin photographs measuring 8' x 9.75'.
An interesting presentation album of Daytona Beach photographs by Richard LeSesne in the 1930s. On the verso of the front board a gift inscription reads, 'To Ken from Dick,' and appears to be a gift from the photographer. The beginning of the album contains LeSesne's racing images. These photographs show scenes of racers, cars, spectators, and beaches. Some of these feature LeSesne's captions and notes which include speeds, driver names, and car models written in the negatives or verso of the photos. Drivers that are featured here include Ray Keech, Sir Malcolm Campbell, and Frank Lockhart, among others with their cars and captions with their records. One of these photos reads, 'Sir Malcolm Campbell's Bluebird - Worlds Record 253.968 mph Daytona Beach, Florida.' The second half of the album shows LeSesne's photographs of the beaches and people of Daytona. LeSesne made a name for himself capturing the drivers of Daytona between 1900 and 1930. His photos capturing the land speed record attempts were among his most noted." --description from Between the Covers Rare Books.
