Thanks to a grant sponsored in part by the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, The Florida Council of Arts and Culture and the State of Florida, The University of Miami Special Collections conducted interviews with individual of Caribbean ancestry now living in Florida. The Caribbean diaspora oral history collection documents and makes accessible the contributions of people of Caribbean ancestry who share stories of migration to the United States and the challenges inherent in such displacements. The 20 interviewees are from various countries from the Caribbean basin such as Columbia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Puerto Rico.
The David L. Powell papers contain research files created for the production of the book "Ninety Miles and a Lifetime Away: Memories of Early Cuban Exiles." The collection contains audio recordings of interviews, physical and digital transcripts, manuscripts, and digital images of photographs and memorabilia, as well as permission documents collected during the interview process.
The Haitian Diaspora Oral History collection includes videos and selected transcripts of oral history interviews conducted with individuals of Haitian ancestry that are well-renowned in the world of the arts, community activism, civic leadership, and many professional organizations. The interviews were conducted by Kevin Mason, Lucrèce Louisdhon-Louinis and Béatrice Colastin Skokan.
The Luis J. Botifoll Oral History Project collection includes videos, outlines, and selected transcripts of oral history interviews conducted principally with members of the first generations of Cubans exiled since the Cuban Revolution. Interviews with political prisoners, visual artists, community activists, and others help to capture Cuba's undocumented history, culture, and people, as well as the exile experience.
The Botifoll Oral History Project was launched in April 2008 with the support of the AMIGOS of the Cuban Heritage Collection. The Project aims to record and provide access to these testimonies in support of the Cuban Heritage Collection's efforts to document the Cuban experience on the island and in the diaspora.
The interviews are made available online as they are completed and can be accessed from the Univeristy of Miami Digital Collections.
Recorded interviews and transcripts of Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science Faculty and others discussing the school's history and it's future.
The Rosenstiel School History Committee, chaired by Dr. Robert N. Ginsburg, began producing an oral history of the Rosenstiel School in 1988 with a recorded conversation with the founder and first Dean, F. G. Walton Smith. Almost thirty senior scientific and technical staff members were interviewed on audio cassette tapes, and the tapes were transcribed by Elosie Zakevich and Jean Yehle, of RSMAS.
The StoryCorps-Warmamas Community Archive (2013-2015) is a collection of interviews with enlisted men and women, veterans, their family and friends. The collaboration between StoryCorps and Warmamasis part of StoryCorps' Military Voices Initiative which serves as a platform to allow military families to share their experiences. Warmamas also places a special emphasis on interviewing women whose children were deployed to serve in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. As a repository for personal reflections on the ramifications of war, the collection includes individual testimonies and helps to document American history.
The StoryCorps Historias Interview collection contains 152 interviews recorded from 2009-2010 as part of the StoryCorps Historias project. The interviews held by the Cuban Heritage Collection represent all interviews recorded in Miami and of participants who self-identify as Cuban or of Cuban descent, regardless of place of interview.
In 2009, the Cuban Heritage Collection became a community partner of the StoryCorps Historias project, “an initiative to record the diverse stories and life experiences of Latinos in the United States.” As part of this partnership, the Cuban Heritage Collection received all oral histories recorded in Miami and all interviews in which participants self-identified as Cuban or of Cuban descent. The StoryCorps Historias interviews held at the Cuban Heritage Collection are available for online viewing at the Cuban Heritage Collection’s reading room.
Formed in 1959, World Wings International is an association of former Pan Am flight attendants that now dedicates itself to charitable activities. This collection includes the administrative records of the organization as well as scrapbooks, photographs, membership and annual meetings files, correspondence and financial records.
