Scrapbook: Marion Lamar Raborn and family take a 1946 trip down the coast of Florida on their 32-ft. yacht "The Seabird"

"Marion Lamar Raborn (1902-1959), a Sanford, Florida resident, along with family members, embarks on November 28, 1946 in his yacht, 'The Seabird' from New Smyrna for a four-day trip up the coast to St. Augustine. On April 4, 1946, he leaves New Smyrna on a month-long trip headed south and continues to Craig Key before returning home. He details daily events in his twenty-five page handwritten diary and includes a few ephemeral items. While an interesting and detailed travelogue of yacht travel, its interest may resonate more for its documentation of Florida restaurants as the Raborns dine their way from St. Augustine to the Florida keys. The diary ends mid-sentence at Daytona after Raborn returns from dinner at the Ridgewood Hotel. Census data suggests Raborn was 43 years of age in 1946." -- Description from David McCord Bookseller
