Grupo Humboldt

Materials in this scrapbook relate to Casero Guillén's involvement in an outdoors and hiking club, called the Grupo Humboldt, which he organized with friends in Santiago de Cuba in the 1940s.

Materials in this scrapbook relate to the return of Carlos Prío Socarrás to Cuba in 1955 after being exiled in 1952, as well as Casero Guillén's exile in Kingston, Jamaica, and return to Cuba in 1958 after the takeover of the Batista government.

This scrapbook contains photographs and some ephemera relating to Casero Guillén's tenure as Minister of Public Works in the administration of Cuban president Carlos Prío Socarrás and photographs of various political party events. It also contains materials relating to Casero Guillén's nomination for Vice President with Carlos Hevia on the Auténticos ticket, as well as details of Casero Guillén's two-month imprisonment in 1953 by Fidel Castro following the Moncada Barracks attack.

The Luis Casero Guillén Collection contains scrapbook albums relating to the life and work of Cuban politician Luis Casero Guillén (1902-1998) during his time in Cuba.

The scrapbooks contain photographs that detail his early life and later political accomplishments as Mayor of Santiago de Cuba and Minister of Public Works during the presidency of Carlos Prío Socarrás (1948-1952). The collection also contains correspondence, awards, certificates and clippings from Cuba and in exile.
