This series contain a variety of different items, most of which are photographs, photographic negatives, and correspondence. The photographs and the photographic negatives, most of which originate from the early 20th century, predominantly depict Miami, Coconut Grove, the Coral Gables, and greater Miami Dade County. The Barnacle and other Coconut Grove residences are particularly represented. Much of the correspondence is between members of the Munroe family, including Ralph Middleton Munroe, his wife Jessie Munroe, his daughter Patty Munroe, his son Wirth Munroe, Martha Munroe, as well as close family friends Vincent Gilpin (who also helped Ralph Munroe write his autobiography), John Gilpin, and Captain Nathaniel Herreshoff. Some of this correspondence, dated 1968 to 1972, is regarding the sale of the Barnacle. These letters are written between Thos. McE. Johnston, lawyer, and Mary Munroe, Patty Munroe, Charles Munroe, William Munroe, and W. R. Catlow, Jr.. Several official documents are included in this as well. Another particularly notable piece of correspondence is a letter from Eveline Wagner, wife of the Miami Dade County pioneer William Wagner, to Mrs. Charles Baron, dated March 6th, 1873. Other items of interest are as follows: An 11-page manuscript dated March 5, 1887, written at Cocoanut Grove, Biscayne Bay, Florida, wherein the anonymous author describes his or her experience of Biscayne Bay and how he or she moved there from New York. Four land survey plat maps of the Miami area around Biscayne Bay, indicating “wet prairie” where Coconut Grove is now located. On two of the maps, an area is designated as “donation to the heirs of Dr. Perrine.” All are undated, but on the reverse of one it is written: “1848?” Two hand-drawn architectural plans on tracing paper of revisions to the Coconut Grove Library and Assembly Hall, dated February 27, 1929 and March 4, 1929, signed by F. H. B., architect. A menu for My Brother’s Place Steak House in Coral Gables, the front of which includes an illustration of historic Coral Gables on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. Two Miami High School Diplomas: one from Walter H. Combs Jr. in 1918, and one from Edwin Clare Wilson in 1922. A copy of Coconut Grove Magazine volume 11, number 1, 1996, containing an article by Alan Crockwell titled “History in the Making: Miami’s Centennial Brings a History Packed, Insightful Lecture Series.”
