Richard John's research, teaching and publications focus on the theory and practice of the classical tradition, both historical and contemporary. Since 2008, he has been the Editor of The Classicist, the award-winning, peer-reviewed academic journal of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. He was invited to be the Visiting Harrison Design Scholar at the College of Architecture of The Georgia Institute of Technology for 2007-08 to help launch their new Master of Science in Classical Design. In 2009, he was the Jury Chair for the Shutze Awards, the foremost prize for Classical Architecture in the South Eastern United States. His latest book, Robert Adam: The Search for a Modern Classicism, was published in 2010. John's current research focuses on the paideia of Early Modern European architects, in particular the sources and influence of James Gibbs’ Rules for Drawing (1732). place-making and sustainable urbanism.

Dr. Lucas Drew was a faculty member of the University of Miami Frost School of Music from 1959 to 2000. In June 2000 he became Professor Emeritus as well as Principal Double Bass Emeritus of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Drew was editor-in-chief of the International Society of Bassists (1974-82) and was the first double bassist to be elected President of the American String Teachers Association (1982-84). Over the years Dr. Drew has helped secure donations and initiate and guide several collections now housed in the Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library.

The Department of Architectural Engineering was created in the School of Engineering, now College of Engineering, in 1950. In 1961, the Department of Architectural Engineering changes name to Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering. Later in 1978 the department is renamed as Department of Architecture and Planning. By 1983, after President Foote's arrival, the Department of Architecture and Planning separates from School of Engineering and Architecture to form The School of Architecture. New campus quarters established at Building 49 (Dickinson Drive) and part of first floor of adjacent Eaton student residences.
