History
F. Charles Ruegg was born in San Mateo, California on 14 June 1912. Before joining Pan
American World Airways (Pan Am) in 1940 he spearheaded and managed a number of businesses involving construction, quarrying and sales.
His eleven (11) years of executive experience with Pan Am include positions as Junior Airport Manager for the Pacific Division and Assistant Airport Manager in Honolulu and Suva. In 1942, he was made Senior Representative in Lagos, Nigeria and then Fisherman’s Lake in Liberia where he oversaw the construction and operation of bases during the war years. As Ground Operations Superintendent in 1943, he oversaw the opening of 40 new Pan American stations. In 1946, he was assigned as the first Station Manager for LaGuardia Airport in New York.
Ruegg retired from Pan Am in 1951 due to a family illness. He moved back to California and continued to work in a managerial capacity for two other airlines. He was a senior executive for Allied Aviation Service Company in 1951.
