The Division of Communication Services slide collection consists of 35mm slides on University of Miami-related subjects, such as UM buildings, schools and departments, athletic programs, and events dating from the 1920s to the 1980s.
Elizabeth Erickson was an instructor in the University of Miami's physical education program during 1928 and 1931. Her collection contains black and white photographs of students and colleagues in the program, other UM-related subjects, and Miami.
There is also a 2-page essay titled "Physical Education Program, University of Miami, 1928-1931, Elizabeth (Betty) Erickson, Instructor" in the collection. It was written especially for the UM Archives and received on March 31, 1975.
This collection documents the career of the University of Miami President Henry King Stanford (April 22, 1916 – January 1, 2009). Contained within are correspondence to and from Henry King Stanford, newspaper clippings, photographs, speeches, research files, scrapbooks, ephemera, and memorabilia that once belonged to him.
Dr. Robert M. Levine (1941-2003) was the Gabelli Senior Scholar in the Arts and Sciences, Director of Latin American Studies, and professor of history at the University of Miami. Throughout his career, Dr. Levine exhibited a strong interest in Brazilian cultural and political history, Jewish Diasporas in Latin America, Cuban history, and Latin American history in general. His collection contains publications (many written by himself), audio-visual materials, photographs, and photograph albums.
The Beaux Arts collection consists of scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, brochures, photographs, and magazines related to the Beaux Arts Organization and the annual Beaux Arts Festival that takes place in South Florida, which is usually co-hosted by University of Miami.
This collection contains a scrapbook kept by George "Curley" Edwards, a student at the University and a member of the first football team, along with a blanket with the UM logo, a belt, and assorted newspaper clippings.
"Focus: America" radio talk show was created by Richard (Ric) Arenstein and Larry Wallenstein, both juniors in the Communications Department, University of Miami in 1975. The show originally started as a local program "Focus: Miami" and was produced at the UM's campus radio station WVUM-FM where Arenstein interviewed local personalities and celebrities visiting Miami.
After the successful first season, the tapes of the talk show were mailed to more than 70 college stations across the country under the name "Focus: America." In his senior year, Arenstein and his new associate, Chuck Bortunick, traveled under a grant from the Burger King Corp. to tape interviews of celebrities in other parts of the country. The show ended because of Arenstein's graduation.
The collection consists of memorabilia commemorating anniversaries and special events by the University of Miami, its schools and departments, athletic programs, student groups, and affiliated organizations. Included among the objects are medallions, cups, bags, hats, gowns, golf balls, t-shirts, parking decals, signs, logos, blankets, plush toys, collecting cards, footballs, and other assorted items.
The UM LGBTQ History Collection contains materials that document the activities of the university's LGBTQ student groups as well as the university's programs for LGBTQ students, such as the organizational records of the LGBTQ Student Center, newsletters, correspondence, press clippings, and audio-visual materials.
This collection captures the history of the University of Miami Biology Club. Contained within are administrative documents, correspondence, exams, financial records, laboratory notes, member lists, and member photographs.
This collection contains several University of Miami treasurer's reports, financial reports, reports from the Financial Affairs Division, budgets, and plans of operations.
This collection contains the personal papers of the former Director of University of Miami Library, Archie McNeal, who was active from 1952 to 1979. His papers include correspondence; documents pertaining to other organizations and committees (including ALA, Library of Congress, Florida Library Study Commission, Association of College and research Libraries, Association of Caribbean Universities and Research Institute Libraries, Southern Association Library Committee) he was a part of, as well as conferences he attended; news articles; and other documents pertaining to his work as library director.
This collection consists of invitations and dedication programs for various buildings in the Coral Gables, Medical, and Marine campuses of the University.
This album contains 160 color photographs of the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina on the Coral Gables campus in 2005. The pictures were taken by the University of Miami Department of Risk Management on August 25, 2005, and donated to the University Archives in 2008.
The School of Music, Lucas Drew collection contains a varied selection of programs, news clippings, schedules, brochures, newsletters, and other miscellaneous papers, mainly from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.
The collection Preserving U: University of Miami Hurricanes Heritage Campaign contains 7 reports written in 2005 by the Alumni Team, Campus Team, Campus Media Team, Iron Arrow Team (2 reports), Media Team, and Student Government Team.
The campaign to collect memorabilia and preserve university history was a joint effort by Iron Arrow, the University of Miami libraries, the University of Miami Alumni Association, and Dr. Tilson's public relations campaigns classes.
The University of Miami Board of Trustees I.O.F. records contains minutes; charters; ledgers; agendas; and financial, legislative, and administrative documents.
The reports are in two volumes: Volume one published in July 1992 and volume two (marked "As Amended - 1993") in 1993.
