Malaika, a handbook published in the 1970s and 1980s, lists resources and organizations by and for the Black students and faculty of the University of Miami. Malaika is an African term, of Swahili origin, which means togetherness.
Earlier editions are subtitle "United Black Students' Handbook," and later editions are subtitled "Chronicle of Black Affairs."
A 1969 brochure of Black Culture Week was also found with the booklets.
This collection contains promotional materials, club guidelines, news clippings relating to Students Toward a New Democracy, and newspapers with articles relevant to Overtown and labor campaigns.
This collection consists of five scrapbooks produced by University of Miami's United Blacks Students, an organization dedicated to educating the community at large, uplifting their members and peers, and celebrating African-American culture.
