Scope and content

The Office of the President records contain files generated and compiled by University of Miami's Office of the President.  The documents are classified by subject under each administration.  Subject folders available in the collection include correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, publications, and press clippings.

The files from Ashe and Pearson Administrations are available for research. Please see the attached inventory lists for the two administrations for further information.

System of arrangement

This collection has been divided into series based on their respective presidential administration:

Series I - Ashe Administration (1926-1945; 42 Boxes) open

Series II - Pearson Administration (1946-1962; 53 Boxes) - open

Series III - Stanford Administration files (1962-1981; 236 Boxes) - closed

Series IV - Foote Administration files (1981-2001) - closed

Series V - Shalala Administration files (2001-2015) - closed

Series VI - Frenk Administration (2015- present) - closed

Portions of this collection are still in process as donations are made to this collection on a periodic basis.

Conditions of access and use elements

Conditions governing access

Only materials in the Ashe Administration (1926-1945) and Pearson Administration (1946-1962) series are open for research. The Stanford Administration files (1962-1981), the Foote Administration files (1981-2001), the Shalala Administration files (2001-2015), and the Frenk Administration files (2015-present) are all restricted.

Physical access

This collection is kept in an off-campus storage facility. Please contact the University Archivist, Nick Iwanicki, at ngi5@miami.edu with the boxes you are interested in prior to your visit, and allow up to 1 week for delivery of materials.
