The Otto G. Richter Library, on the Coral Gables campus of the University of Miami, completed in 1962, houses collections that serve the arts, architecture, humanities, social sciences, and the sciences. It is a depository for federal and state government publications. Rare books, maps, manuscript and archival collections are housed in Special Collections, the Cuban Heritage Collection and University Archives.

Otto G. Richter Library Directors Records consists of documents generated by the Office of the Library Director from the 1950s to present, such as correspondence, policies, budget, and donors.  Only the persons authorized by the Dean of the Libraries can access the collection.

William G. Harkins served as the first full-time Librarian of the University before Dr. McNeal from 1946 to 1952.  The title of the position was "Director" until 1997, "Director of Libraries" from 1997-2002, and has become "Dean and the University Librarian" since 2003.
